Intensive Suit Therapy

Kids In Motion is proud to be the first clinic in Georgia to offer intensive therapy using the Therasuit method.  This program, which is designed to improve strength and endurance, provides 60 hours of therapy (3 consecutive weeks, 4 hours a day, 5 days a week) allowing ample time for the child to practice (and practice and practice) to learn proper body control for gross motor function.

Frequency

Typically a child with abnormal tone needs to undo bad habits and re-learn correct movement in order to make functional progress or meet new goals.  Often a child is able to meet goals during this 3-week intensive therapy that would require 3 to 6 months of traditional therapy to accomplish.  It is recommended that a child repeat the intensive program two or three times per year to maximize their functional progress.

Benefits

In addition to improved muscle control, children often experience improved visual control, fine motor control, and speech production after completing the program.  Goals are individualized by the therapists for each child.  During the program, the Therasuit is worn for a portion of the exercise time.  The Therasuit is an outfit only used in this program, consisting of a hat, vest, shorts, kneepads, and shoes.  Elastic bands are placed on the Therasuit by the clinician to help align the child’s posture from head to toe, and to customize the training of proper movement control for each child.

Children with the following problems usually respond well to Intensive Suit Therapy:

  • Abnormal muscle tone
  • Weakness and poor endurance
  • Delayed gross and fine motor development
  • Poor balance or posture
  • Poor body awareness
  • Speech delays related to muscle control
